Before I write about today, a story about yesterday. I was out in the parking lot cleaning my bike and one of the guests comes up to me. He lives in Michigan and was down in Niles for some business. He is a bicyclist and he travels with his bike on business trips. While I was cleaning my bike he noticed that one of the screws from my rear pannier had come out. As he traveled with his bike gear he thought he had a screw that would fit my pannier. He got one and it worked. Thank you Dave.
The ride today was all about not getting wet. It rained most of the day and it was a little cooler today.
At about the 25 mile mark we stopped a restaurant. Apparently, each year some members of the bicycle tour I am presently on stop by. She told us it rained on the same day last year. I had a hot chocolate to warm me up and the waitress gave us latex gloves to cover our fingers and protect us from the cold. It really worked.
As it was raining we stopped for a quick lunch at a root beer stand that had been around since the 1950s. I had a chili cheese dog and root beer.
It was about 1 mile from the Pennsylvania border and we all got our rain gear on and our cameras ready for a quick picture.
After that it was about 30 miles to the hotel in a steady rain. The shoulders on the road were very wide so it was pretty safe. As long as we did not stop we did not feel the cold. Not much for me to comment on the scenery as I was concentrating on the road. However, one interesting note is we passed a place with vineyards. I never knew that wine could come from this region of the country.
There were almost no uphills today so the time was pretty good considering the rain.

Looks like you've encountered some friendly Americans! Amazing how different some parts of the country are!
ReplyDeleteIra,
ReplyDeleteYou will see lots of vineyards on Friday. Enjoy the last week. I was dipping my toes in the Pacific Ocean off Oregon today.
