Champaign Cycles

This is the fourth of the fifth rest days. Someone from the group mentioned that there are 14 more riding days. A lot has been biked up until now and I am sure that there will be a few more challenges, but I am taking each day and each mile at a time and will enjoy it as much as I can. Below is the map at the end of the fourth rest day.

Below my rest day message.

I have heard that there is a Starbucks in this town and I plan on visiting. I did have a McCafe Cappuccino earlier in the trip and it was not bad, but I want my grande fix.

I am now sitting down in Starbucks. My rest day finally can begin. Larry who works at Champaign Cycles was able to fix my index shifting. As the person that I live with whom I am related to marriage told me last night, there was some piece of junk in the shifting system which caused the problem. Also, another broken spoke in the back wheel which was replaced and the back derailleur was bent and required work. Most likely the shifting and derailleur problems were a result of my accident on day two.

At the bike shop I met Mike who will be joining us from Champaign and will be continuing to Boston. Also stopping by at the store were Al (and his wife who joined him again and is a truly nice and engaging person to speak with) as well as Peter and Chris. Separately, George and his wife stopped by as well. When we do not bike we visit bike stores. We are truly a strange group.

Tomorrow we head into Indiana and the Eastern time zone. The ride is about 80 miles.

  1. Ergggg... I guess I can't complain about how crappy I feel after my short 40 miler Tuesday, 50 miler on Wednesday and 30 mile commute today? A fellow rider said that I have still adjusting to being home, working, chores, along with riding and recover. Ya think?
