It's about the biker, not the bike

Due to thunder and lightning our start was delayed by an hour today.

I slept for about 7 1/2 hours so I felt pretty good as we left. Also, the terrain required only 1 gear today (even on the uphills) so everything worked out for a very good ride.

Alec and I rode together and pushed each other. However, the impetus for my riding today was Lili and Veronica (Champ's wife). They were supporters of Champ and when we passed them in their car they did not cheer us on. I took this as a personal challenge and I wanted to pass Champ.

Below are the two culprits who led to my faster pace today.

After passing Champ, I kept up the pace. At the 69 SAG, Mac told me that I had a chance to catch some of the better bicyclists. After 30 miles I caught up with Fred and we bicycled in together.

I must apologize to Alec. In my haste to catch up with the faster group I left him and he did not have a cue sheet and got lost. He made it to the hotel, but got lost.

Tomorrow it is back to my team for a leisurely 87 mile ride. It is much more enjoyable to ride as a group.
