New York State of Mind

The weather report called for some rain, but other than a drizzle for a very short time there was no rain.

We biked out of Erie and through more vineyards (Yes, Tom you were right about today's ride). We eventually reached the state that I was born and lived in for the first 22 years of my life.

I had not thought about it much until then, but as Karen pointed out it really seemed as if we had biked a long way. It is hard to believe that after I graduated from College, I had drove from NY to California. Now I have biked it as well (although not the same route).

Once again, there were many vineyards in this part of upstate New York. Apparently, I was sleeping when this was discussed during my school years, but it is truly beautiful, Lake Erie on your left and Vineyards on your right
.
The sun came out later in the day and we biked on some of the widest shoulders on this part of the trip. The elevation gain today was minimal so it was not that difficult.

During the ride today we met two riders who were biking from Cedar Rapids, Iowa to Portland, Maine. They were pulling their gear and staying mostly at Camp sites. They were two weeks into the trip and had another two weeks to go. I am glad that I have the comforts of a motel each night. I do not think I could do it any other way (although the Avalon or Indio was as close as we have gotten to "roughing it").

The city we are staying in is about 10 miles from Buffalo, NY. My brother knows Buffalo very well as that is where he went to college. I visited once, but all I remember was the cold weather, the person I guarded when we played basketball that wanted to punch me out because he did not like the way I boxed out, pushing the bus going to the Bills football game because it broke down (that may be an exaggeration) and Buffalo Chicken wings. However, based on my experience today it seems I missed a lot of what the area had to offer.

As I sit in the lobby of the hotel, I know I am back in NY as there is a replay of the Mets-Orioles game from last night on the TV.
