Willie Sluming

Another late start today as we were not biking too far. The breakfast was the second worst to date, but it did not effect me as the ride was not that long. We actually started off not too far from the last group to depart the hotel.

At about the 19 mile mark, Willie decided to join the Dalton 4 as Chris who he regularly rides with wanted to bike with Rick and one of the newer riders, Mike. Mike is a very strong and experienced cyclist and very quick. I highly doubt that I will ever ride with him.

Karen and I discussed with Willie how the group usually rides and how we communicate as we ride. This is not rocket scientist stuff so after 5 minutes, Willie was up to speed.

At around the 33 mile mark, we stopped at the Gentry Farm. The SAG has been hosted there for a number of years. The house is about 3 generations old and was built by the great great grandfather. They even let you use the bathroom in the house. A picture of the group along with the brother of the owner of the house

We thanked Mr. Gentry and we left the SAG. Sometime after we left we noticed that one of the riders had continued going straight and not taken a right turn. It looked like Nancy and we thought it would be a good idea for me to chase her down while the 3 other group members continued on their way. It took me about a mile and a little shouting, but I finally caught up to her. Alec came with me in case I got a flat. Nancy, Alec and I continued and took Nancy back on the trail and after a few miles, Nancy told us to go ahead. Below is a picture of Nancy, safe and sound at the hotel after the days ride.

Nancy is from Florida (west side, a little south of Tampa). As most riders she is a very strong rider.
Alec and I then proceeded to increase our average MPH in an attempt to catch the members of our group. I did not think we could do it, but much to my surprise, we did catch them with about 10 miles to go. There was an alternative route which was quicker to the hotel. We took the suggested route and it was through the suburbs of Indy. The neighborhood was very nice and we passed thorough 3 golf courses. At one course, I muttered nice shot and the golfer yelled back, thank you.

Willie mentioned that he would like to stop at a Starbucks and I also wanted to stop as well. We found a Starbucks right on the road on our route. A nice way to end the ride.

Today was Fred's last day. I doubt that he will read my blog, but if you do I found your flag underneath the map and it is attached to my bike and will be flying in Boston in 2 weeks. Fred, i know in your heart that you enjoyed this tour and I wish you and your family continued success in your business.
Lisa, who rode the same ride 2 years ago brought us some treats. She is a local rider and is a member of the same bicycle group as Fred. Thanks for the sweets, Lisa.
